Approach to Therapy:
I love working together to identify some reasons as to why you feel the way you do. To me, therapy feels life completing the middle part of a puzzle. The edges/outline are there, and we have a good understanding of what the final picture is, but all the pieces aren’t connected yet. As we continue to work together, my hope is that we can connect more and more pieces together until you feel like you understand how to create meaningful change in the places that are causing you emotional distress. I tend to use cognitive behavioral therapy with my clients and spend a lot of time exploring the connections between the situations we are in, our thoughts and our feelings.

I prefer to take a collaborative approach to therapy and enjoy getting to know who you are outside of the therapy space. I appreciate humor, sarcasm and an appropriately placed curse word while we are working together and strive to ensure that our time together gives you space to speak and behave in a way that feels authentic to you.
Clinical Interests:
My clinical interests include depression, anxiety, PTSD/trauma, and I have strong experience working with LGBTQIA+ individuals. I enjoy working with difficulties connected to chronic/terminal illness, grief and change of life difficulties (IE-retirement, moving to a new state, career changes). I also have experiencing working for companies that focus on treating the mental health difficulties that come with chronic or terminal illnesses and enjoy working with patients whose mental health is complicated by a physical illness. As a gay-identified psychologist I am committed to providing a safe therapy space for all people.

I am always happy to consult with other providers and can offer consultation on topics such as trauma, ADHD, LGBTQIA issues, and depression/anxiety.
Education and Training:
I hold a bachelor’s degree from Dominican University in Biology and Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience. I have a master’s degree and doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a master’s degree in Clinical Psychopharmacology from Fairleigh Dickenson University. I am certified by the VA in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD/trauma and have training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
I have worked in many different therapeutic settings over the years including medical inpatient facilities, outpatient mental health facilities, wellness centers dedicated to cancer treatment, the VA medical system, multiple hospitals and private practices.
More About Me:
I am a huge foodie, a gardener, and a tinkerer and tend to be happiest when surrounded by really good food, plants, or my dogs, Wallie (or Wallace when he is in trouble) and Frederick (who doesn’t get a shortened name because he is always in trouble). Most of the time Wallie and Frederick are well-behaved and quiet, but sometimes the zoomies get the best of them or they feel the need to share a song in the language of their people with everyone who will listen and they can be a little loud. Please let me know if this bothers you during our session and we can find a way to reduce their interruptions.
